The Refugee Youth Service was created in 2015 in the settlement in Calais formely known as the Jungle. Today, unaccompanied minors continue to come to Calais and Dunkirk and need support. Our team has individuals from a total of 5 different countries, speaking a total of 8 different languages.We pride ourselves on our multicultural approach. In the field relationship building is an integral part of our work.
Centred around wellbeing, social development and informal education, we try to promote an environment that develops feelings of belonging, self-worth and a sense of community. Our French legal team provide legal support and access to child protection services in France. RYS continues to advocate for the rights of unaccompanied minors and our team have worked hard to develop and facilitate the appropriate legal routes and processes in France and England.
Ultimately, through a holistic approach to the individual’s wellbeing we support unaccompanied children and young people to re-start their lives where they are, or safely and legally reach an alternative destination that is in their better interests.
We are currently raising funds for:Computers & tablets for self directed learning and connecting with family & friends, furnishing & decorating of the safe space, sports equipment, arts & recreational activity materials, food & activity materials for street outreach.
